Redfish Lake 2011

We spent most of last week enjoying beautiful Redfish Lake, near Stanley, Idaho. It was wonderful and brought back so many childhood memories. We spent many summers camping at the other end of the lake with no running water, except the river, and no bathrooms, just the outhouse. When we went to the old stomping grounds this year I could still see the old green "five" man tent that slept seven, and yes, six of those were girls. We had lots of laughs and good times. I love to see me kids enjoy this same place. Kyle enjoying the water and Ashlee the hiking. It was a great break from the go-go-go we do each day. For those that know the family, you will see a couple extra kids in some of the pictures. Two of Mat and Kade's friends from Soda came with us. Can't wait to go back again!!!

Today is a very special day!! Our baby is having a birthday!! Yes we still call her our baby even though she is turning another year older. We love our Ashlee...Blondie...Blonde Bomber..Baby Girl and as Ray calls her sometimes "the Warden". She does keep us in line and we love her so much. She brings so much to our family!! We have gone from Cheerleading to Softball so there are a few pictures.

March/April...sometime in here Kyle went to the JR. Prom. It was great!!!

Also in April, we had many Dance competitions, Rodeos and Ashlee's birthday....

Of Course, when May arrived the only thing on our minds was High School Graduation...Yes Kyle you made it!! There were times we wondered if we would see this day...but it was all worth the wait!!

We had a great visit with Hailey and Wyatt last week. He is soooo cute!!! Wyatt is growing and looking wonderful. Of course, Hailey is her beautiful self and looks fabulous as always!!

District Wrestling

Today was the District Wrestling Tournament. Kyle wrestled at 119 lbs. His goal this year was to qualify for state. Those of you that know Kyle's past may wonder how he would ever reach this goal with the accident and injuries from just a year ago?? However, for Kyle, the question to wrestle again was always...Yes!! He has done such a great job this year. We are so proud of him and the hard work and many hours of practice. Today, he qualified for state, taking 2nd place!!! WOHOO!!! It was awesome!! He fought so hard!!! Thanks to all those that have supported him and had him in their prayers. We greatly appreciate all the love!! Kyle...you're the man!! We love you and can't wait to see you wrestle at the Holt Arena next week!! You reached your goal!! Malad took 1st place as team!!!

MHS Wrestling Senior Night

On January 20th, the Senior Wrestlers and Stat keepers were honored at the last home wrestling match. Kyle was among these Seniors and it was a great night. There were four Seniors honored along with two stat keepers. The wrestlers were Tallen Boyer, Kyle Davis, Derek Stagner and Hayden Scofield, stat keepers Jesse Corbridge and Rachel Peterson. The Seniors gave their mom a rose. We wrestled Bear River. Kyle had a JV match and won his match with a pin.

Just a little update from last week. Kyle wrestled at the Bear Lake Tournament on Saturday. He was in a 112 weight class "Pod". He took 1st place with a 2-0 record. He was excited, he pinned both times. He looked great and just keeps getting better and better. Malad took 4th overall as a team.

Ashlee's dance group was invited to dance at the Dragonette Christmas show. The theme for this production was "Pirates Life". Ashlee does a great job and the production is awesome!!! Nicole is on the drill team and does a wonderful job, in fact, we think she is the best!!!

Dragon Wrestling

The wrestling season has begun for the Malad Dragons--returning State Champs, yes, that's right, Malad High School took state last year as a team. Even though Kyle was still recovering he was there to support them and he was still considered part of the team. This year, Kyle started off strong by getting a pin on his first match. The next one he lost---but if you ask Kyle--you win some and you lose some. The next match-up was at the Malad Invitational. Kyle took 3rd place in the 119 weight class. He was very excited. He tried his hardest and it was great to see him on the mat again and enjoying it so much. We are so proud of how far he has come over the last year. Last year on this day, December 22nd, we had our second surgery fixing the hip fracture and broken pelvis. We had nearly lost him a couple of times and he was still on a vent. But, let's look on the bright side...he is still here with us and knows that he has a purpose here. We love our "baby boy" very much. We still call him our baby boy, even though he just turned 18. Keep going strong Kyle...we love you and are so proud of all your accomplishments!!!

Oh Christmas Tree...Oh Christmas Tree...

Yes, we went and cut down our Christmas tree on Saturday. It has been a family tradition to buy a tree permit and go for a beautiful drive in the Malad Valley and find that special Christmas Tree. I can still remember the year we went when I was expecting Kyle. We had a lot of snow that year and I was eight months pregnant...and little did I know that he was not going to wait much longer to come into this world. He wanted to be part of our Christmas and not wait any longer. Each year we have had fun as a family, sharing memories and enjoying the outdoors with other family members.
Now, not every year has been full of joy...yes, there have been fights and tears, and whining and complaining....but for the most part...it is great!!! Ray took us up John Evans Canyon and we found a wonderful tree right from the start, but you can't cut down the first tree you find...(don't ask Kyle)...we went hiking and looking and more hiking and more looking and yep, you guessed it...went back and cut down that first tree. Kyle and Ashlee took turns cutting it down and it is up and decorated. What great family memories we have tried to create!!

Malad Homecoming 2009

Kyle had a great time during homecoming week. There is plenty to do between working on class floats for the parade and the many daily activities, the kids stay busy. Friday was a fun day with a beautiful day of weather, parade and of course the big game against the Westside Pirates. Malad won the game and it was so good!! That night was the big dance, then dinner at our house with pizza and cheese cake (thanks Bo and Shenell for the cheese cakes) and then finishing with a movie. On Saturday then went and drove go-carts, hung out at the mall (so yes, those of you from Malad, then went "out-of-town" :-)) and then finished with the corn maze in Garland. I hear that Kyle screamed the loudest...even over the girls!! They had a great weekend and made some wonderful memories!! Here are a few pictures. Thanks to Mary Jo for taking the pictures!!

Fall....

Well, fall is here. The leaves have changed to beautiful colors of red, orange and yellow, we brought the cows home, and the weather is cooler. I love fall!! Ashlee helped me put up the Halloween decorations yesterday so the house looks more festive. For the missionaries, I have added some picture of Kyle moving the cows. One picture he says is just for Grandpa. You will notice the hat on sideways with his tongue sticking out!! Yes we all remember that photo from Maui!!! A couple of pictures are from this morning. A stormed moved in last night and you can see it rolling over the Samaria mountains and North Canyon!! The pictures of Kyle riding also have Kiely Jo in them but she didn't want her pictures taken. The other rider is Grandpa Chuck, yes at the age of 79 he can still move cows and enjoys helping the kids with the cows....Love you!!

New School Year 2009-2010

Well, another school year is under way. For Kyle, this is his last year in high school....yes, he is a Senior, I know, I can't believe it either. He is excited but also worried already about what life will bring after high school. Ashlee is an 8th grader and loving every minute so far. She has made the volleyball team and enjoying it very much. We took some pictures around the farm over the weekend. The pictures attached are with my camera, better ones are to follow that Shenell took with her great new camera (Thanks Shenell!!) For the missionaries, we had rain over the weekend and a pretty good storm tonight. It seems fall is in the air but the weather shows more summer for the next few days. Enjoy the pictures!!!

4H Sheep Show

Today was the 4-H sheep show. Everyone did a great job!! All four kids got blue ribbons in fitting and showing and quality. Nicole and Eric both make it to the final five in quality. The kids have worked so hard and it is a joy to see the final product and their hard work pay off. We are so proud of Ashlee and the responsiblity she takes to feed and care for the animals!! We love you Ashlee!!

We have alot of catching up to do with summer pictures but I thought I would start with the newest first. On Saturday we finally took the boat out for the first time this summer. With a rainy June and then getting the hay up, we were just too busy but this Saturday was worth the wait. The water was great, not many people and just a whole lot of fun in the sun!!! We had Lexi for the weekend and Bo and Shenell brought the girls and Malorie.

It has been a while since we posted on the blog. So what have we been up to. Well, a little bit of everything. Once we got home from Missouri and seeing our wonderful missionaries, Kyle got sick for almost a week and we had to have a couple of test run. He is fine, in fact, feeling so good he attended a wrestling camp last week. It was hard for him and he was very sore but he made it the full four days and also was able to wrestle for one hour in what they call the grind match. We are very proud of his determination.
Ashlee has been playing lots of softball and so far won all her games. She is also my helper at home, doing all the chores and she helps watch the girls and babysits whenever we need her to. She is mowing lawns and working with her lamb. She is such a help to me and her dad. She is awesome!!
A few weeks ago, Brylee and Alexus were at the house and decided to play dress up. Here are just a couple of pictures of the darling girls!!! Love to all!!

Where Oh where have we been....

well, to Missouri to see the Missionaries. Yes, we made the trip back to Missouri to Adam-ondi-Ahman and had a great visit with my parents. We spent 9 days traveling back and we also went to Nauvoo. It was a great trip. I just can not explain the peaceful feelings we had the entire time we were gone. My parents are serving their mission in such a wonderful place. We loved ever minute we were there. Ashlee and Kyle had such a great time. There was a swing were my parents live and this was Ashlee's favorite place to hang out. We seen so many beautiful places and had great feelings of peacefulness and felt the spirit that it is just hard to explain. It will be a trip that we never forget. We are so thankful we had this opportunity to visit this great place and learn about the history. Thanks Mom and Dad for the great trip!! Love you!!

New Additions to the Farm....

Well, it is that time of year...to get the sheep for 4-H. Ashlee, Nicole, Eric and Justin picked out the lambs tonight from Rauhn Panting and we brought them to their new home. We spent about an hour looking at all the lambs, writing down numbers and catching the ones the kids liked the best. It is a great summer job for the kids and they do a great job. Here are a few pictures. You can see that it is a family affair. Blake wanted to pet one so Kathy got some hay and did some coaxing. Also, the 4-H steer and other cow were very interested in the new additions to the farm!!!

Little Update...

Here is just a little update to what the kids have been doing the past week. Kyle is getting ready to end his Junior year. He is excited to be a Senior next year. School is a struggle for Kyle so there are many things about school he will not miss but there are friends and great teachers and those extra activities that he will miss. All we have heard for the past month is that he only has one year of high school left. This morning as we were getting ready for the day, he said to me, "I will be a Senior next year, can you believe it"...and before I could answer he said, "I guess I've grown up a little too fast" I could hardly talk. There have been days we weren't sure if we would see him graduate from high school or even finish his Junior year but we are so proud of the great young man that he has become.
Ashlee has been busy at school too. She decide to run for Student Body Vice President of her Middle school. She made it through the preliminaries and hopes to win. She has made signs, stickers and now working on a skit for tomorrow. She is our rock and Ray calls her the "Guard" as she keeps us all in line, makes sure we don't forget things and just keeps up going.

A Week in Review...

Well, it was a busy week, we got a lot accomplished in six days.
*On Monday, it was the drill team spring show and Ashlee and Nicole performed with their dance team
*On Tuesday, we had a great Young Men and Young Women's activity with a game of baseball and dutch oven cooking. We had a great turn-out!! It seems when you serve food, they come!!!
*Wednesday, Kyle went riding at the in-door barn at Simpsons and had a great time. Ashlee and Nicole mowed lawns and Ray was the fix-it man for the lawn mower. When he gave Ashlee his bill, she about fainted!!! He said he wasn't givin' free labor like Grandpa Frank :-)
*Thursday we cleaned house and worked in the yard
*Friday was branding day at the ranch. We were done by lunch and it was a job that felt great to get done. Friday night, Kyle and I went to Grace to watch the high school rodeo. The Malad kids are doing great. Lindsay is doing super in each event and we can't wait to watch them in Malad this next weekend.
On the way home from the rodeo, we picked up Lexie for the weekend.Today was also Grandpa Frank's birthday!!! Happy Birthday!!!!
*Saturday found us spending the day in Tremonton at a dance competition. Everyone did awesome!!!

Here are just a few random pictures from the last couple of weeks. Ashlee and Nicole had a dance competition in Malad and Grandma and Grandpa sent them both flowers.

They both did excellent on their solo routine along with many other girls from Malad.

Next we have Alexus. She has spent the last couple of weekends with us and we just love her so much. She says they cutest things. Friday at the highschool rodeo she had been eating cheetos, I told her she had a "cheeto face". She looked right at me and said....that's because I have been eating cheetos!!! LOL!! It was so cute. Didn't get a picture of the cheetos but here are a few others when we were getting ready for church last week!!

Wrestling Dinner

Last week, we attended the Wrestling Dinner with Kyle. Malad Wrestling team had a great year, winning every tournament they attended, and yes this includes district and State. Malad took State and this was the first time in Malad High School history. Kyle felt bad he was not part of the team the whole year due to his accident but he wrestled enough matches to letter. The coach and his wife also made plaques for each young man and it was a fun night. Kyle was thrilled that he letter and looks forward to next year!!!

Preston Dance Competition

Ashlee and Nicole had a team dance competition last Saturday. Their Hip-Hop dance received a Judges Choice award and their production number titled "One World" received a high score award. It was a lot of fun!! Here are a few pictures!!

And I saved the best picture for last. You know the look you get from your daughter when you do something embarrassing or stupid and they look at you and say "Mother!!" Well, I just happen to capture this on camera at the dance competition!! I didn't think my impersonation of "Flash Dance" was that bad!!! Just kidding!! Not sure what I did for the look but oh well, got it on film!!

Easter Cookout!!!

Well, Easter just wasn't the same without the pickled eggs at Grandma's and having a hotdog out by the shop....so we had to do our own. It was later in the afternoon and Ashlee decided we needed to do the traditional hotdog and marshmellow roast. It was fun and we enjoyed the day together.

Of course we had to find an "Easter Bunny"...gotta love brothers!!!

Ashlee's First Solo Competition 2009

Ashlee had her first solo competition this year in Blackfoot. There was about 70 entries and she was number 6. Good to get it over with early. She did awesome!!! She was awarded Queen in her division and received very high marks with wonderful comments to help her grow and learn. We are so proud of her!!!

We had Alexus for the weekend so she needed a picture with Ashlee!!! She was so cute with all the dancers and loved watching Ashlee.

My baby is turning 13 today!!! Happy Birthday Baby Girl!! Yes, we still call her baby girl along with, Blonde Bomber and Ashy Bum. We are so proud of all her accomplishments and the wonderful young woman that she is. She is so helpful and kind, not to mention beautiful and just full of fun!!

You might ask why the hat and blanket...well we are on "spring" break but it doesn't feel much like spring. We are still hangin' out at home watching it snow!!!

Jr. Prom...Take Five....."Minutes to Midnight"

The theme for the prom this year was "Minutes to Midnight". The colors were black and dark purple. When we got there for the promenade, they had covered the floor with black plastic as they could not scuff the gym floor. I was very worried about Kyle tripping with his foot and cane...but all went well. In fact, that was the best I had ever seen him walk...and yes, I was so nervous I didn't get it on video or pictures. I tried the pictures but it was just too dark. However, when they came out for their first dance we were allowed on the floor so here are a few of Kyle and Meisha. Now to get ready for the party after the prom.....

Well, here is the big guy in his tux. This was a milestone for us and me. Never having any brothers, I didn't have to help a young man with a tux before. It was fun and Kyle was very excited. About four months ago we weren't sure he would be wearing a tux tonight or even be able to walk without a walker...but our prayers were answered and he did awesome. He still took a cane...notice a silver one. Yes, we now have four different canes!!! He had to wear the cowboy hat. He says he will always be a cowboy and wanted to show this side of himself. Of course he is my son, but I think he looks very handsome!!! Enjoy!!!

Last week...and a New week...

Well, last week was very busy for us. The week went something like this:

Monday-Ray had fireman meeting and Ashlee & Nicole practiced solos and of course, worked all day and kids at school. Kyle had physical therapy and is doing great walking with his cane (he has a new one)
Tuesday-Young Women. We had a St. Patrick's Day party with lots of "green" food and played games.
Wednesday-More physical therapy for Kyle and dancing for Ashlee.
Thursday-More dancing for Ashlee. Kyle is getting his date plans in place for the Jr. Prom. The community had an open house for the Malad Wrestling team as they took State this year as a team. Kyle had a great time. Ray took the team on the fire truck around the great town of Malad and made lots of noise.
Friday-I had the day off so we gave all 108 calves a booster shot. More physical therapy for Kyle and dance for Ashlee. Kathy and I went to Logan to the Temple and then got take-out food for our families.
Saturday-We spent the day putting up electric fence to move the cows. We filled Kyle's tubs with grain for his 4-H steer and then moved his steer over to our house. I even got some clothes on the line this day. I love crawling in bed with sheets that have been on the line outside!!!

This week looks something like this:
Of course, we all must work all week and the kids go to school but we must throw in, Physical therapy for Kyle, dance for Ashlee and the Jr. Prom.
Ray had a cow that was having problems yesterday. Of course it was Sunday and you hope that everything will go as it should....but it didn't. The little calf was backwards and all four feet were forward as far as sheet could get them. Yes, Ray and I had a great time getting this little calf here. It was alive and all is well.
The Jr. Prom is on Thursday and we will be cooking a nice dinner before and then having movies and pizza after. Kyle is excited for this event. He thinks he can even promenade without the cane!!!
On Friday, we go to Salt Lake so Kyle can be fitted for a brace for his foot...and yes, every free minute Ashlee will be practicing her dance for her first solo on April 3rd.
I'm tired already and it is only Monday!!!! Well, work must go on!! A shout out to the missionaries!! The weather was great over the weekend but today is cold and even trying to snow in Tremonton!! We love our Missionaries!!! Have an awesome week!!!

4-H Steers....

Today was the spring weigh in for the 4-H steers. Ray, Kyle and Lindsay loaded up the steers and off they went. They put their halters on last week so this morning was pretty easy. Kyle's steer is the lightest of the bunch but is a good-looking steer, weighing in at 700 lbs. Lindsay is a lot of help and such a good friend to Kyle. She has been there for him always and we appreciate her so much. She went swimming with us last night and we had a great time.
To the Missionaries...it is a beautiful spring day today. We cleaned up the yard and took down Christmas lights. I also did one of Dad's favorite spring jobs... yes, cleaning up after our wonderful dogs!! I know you miss it Dad!! Have a great weekend to everyone!!!
On a side note, Ashlee is on her way home. She has spent the last four days in Arizona with Grandpa and Grandma Davis!! She has loved the 80 degree weather!!

Walk that walk...!!! The best thing that happened last week was that Kyle was given the go ahead to walk on his hip that he broke 12 weeks ago. He still has to use a cane but it was great news. He had to show Grandpa and Grandma the cane. Its not the best picture but he didn't want to stand there any longer as he was getting ready to give a talk in church and did not have many patience for his mom and a camera. Talking in church is not his most favorite thing to do :-) The other pictures are of his room we painted this weekend. It looks so much better. Ashlee painted some shelves so we had to post a picture of this as well.

They're Off.....

To Missouri that is. Our missionaries left this morning. We are so proud of them and grateful for the choices they have made their entire lives to lead up to this most wonderful day and experience. We will miss them but know that they are being taken care of with the most precious hands and will meet so many great people in Missouri. As we stood this morning saying good-bye, I couldn't help but wonder if we had all stood their at another time many years ago, saying good bye to them as they came to fulfill their earthly mission and hoping that one day we would be with them. We love them so much and can't wait to visit!!
You have to notice the packing job!! I don't think you could have gotten one more item in the back of this truck. In fact, I wondered if Dad left room for Mom or should I say, Did Elder Madsen leave room for Sister Madsen!! Of course he did!!!

Well, the day is nearly here that we will send off our missionaries to Missouri. We are so excited for them. We will miss them so much, but look forward to hearing about their many wonderful experiences. We all had a wonderful day on Sunday as we visited with each other and many family members. We are so grateful for such a supportive and loving family. I will try to be better about new posts as I know that Grandma and Grandpa will be anxious to keep track of all of us. Just wanted to post an update on Mr. Kyle. He went to the doctor last week and the hip joint is healing extremely well. The Doc was pleased with his range of motion in just six weeks. The nerve has not healed completely but Kyle does have more feeling on the top of his foot than what he did four weeks ago so we find this encouraging. Below are a few pictures of the truck.
Thanks to everyone for their prayers and support during this time. We couldn't ask for a greater family and support system. You are all awesome!!!

We are having babies.......

Baby calves that is. It is calving season at the farm and we are just getting started. It is a busy time of year but also fun to see these little ones enter the world. Emma is visiting Grandma and Grandpa so her and the other kids decided they needed to help Uncle Ray do chores. Not sure they were much help but they did like the new baby calves. Emma was not scared one bit.
